LODGE MEETINGS

The Melrose Lodge, No. 00,' U.A.0.D., maintains its reputation of being the best attended lodge in the district, and the quarterly summoned meeting held last week was no exv?eption to the rule, there _ being a very large number present, also 'over twenty .visitors/ mainly from Pacific Lodge, who attended officially \in order to present the Hearn Trophy recently won by .Melrose. A. ,1). Bro. Middleton presided. A letter of congratulation was received from Pride of Brooklyn Lodge, also a challenge for the coveted trophy, which was accepted and will be played for next meeting; when the installation of officers will also take place. Various reports were received from delegates. Two honorary members were proposed and four candidates. During the last six years this a t! 8 doubled its membership. The A.D. of Pacific Lodge presented the iiearn Trophy and congratulated the lodge on its success. Great interest was taken m the nomination of officers for which there was keen competition, the following being elected:-A.D., Bro. Dlckenson; V.A., Bro. Hornblow; J.P.A., Bro. 'A vote of thanks was accorded the visitors present rrom Maitai Lodge (Nelson) and Shamrock Lodge (Victoria). The quarterly summoned meeting of the Loyal Kose of Sharon Lodge, M.U.1.0.0J\, Upper Hutt, was held last week. A gcH attendance was presided over, by Bro. T. Purvis, N.G. Tho following members were elected for a social committee:—Social secretary, Bro. Boult; committee, Sister Whiteman, Bros. E. W. Million, A. Anderson, A. D. Leighton, aiicfT. Purvis. Bro. Congrave, of the City of - Norwich f odge, Lytteltcn, was present as a visiting member. A P.G.s jewel was presented to Bro. A. Allan, PIG. Two proposals for membership were received. Tho quarterly meeting of the Roso of tho Valley Lodge, Manchester Unity, 1.0.0 F., Lower Htftt, was held last week, Bro. i-asker, NXf., presiding over a large attendance. It was decided to support the suggestion that 'he district should donote a ball to tho carillon. Three new members wei-o initiated nnd one was' .proposed for membership. Tho following officers were elected:—l.P.N.G., Bro. Tasker; N.G., Bro. Hardy; V.G., Bro. Shadlock; E.S., Bro. Gower; Warden, Sister Wagner; Guardian, Sister A. Reynolds; pianist, Bro. Mann; sick visitors, Bros Reynolds, Sliadlock, Butler, Tasker, and M'Konzie; lecture master, Bro. Tait. It- wns resolved to open the. lodge- at 8 p.m. iv future all the year round. ,
