SHEARERS' DISPUTE
TO GO TO ARBITRATION COURT,
That there was not the slightest possibility of an agreement being reached as regards the main points in the shearers' and shed hands' demands for a new Dominion award was announced this morning when the dispute came before the • Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. Newton). .-' Mr. A".' Cook, who appeared for the applicants, stated that in Christchur'ch recently certain minor provisions had been agreed to by both sides, and that these would be incorporated in a Dominion award. But no agreement could bo arrived at on the main points of contention, chief amongst which were the questions of wages and hours. Therefore all the points in dispute have been referred to tho Arbitration Court, which will hold a special session at Christchurch at the end of the month in order to arrive at a new Dominion award. '■ It was agreed that any further ventilation of tho dispute in Wellington would bo waste of time, both sides being quite willing to accept the ruling of the Arbitration Court as regards a Dominion award. There were present for !the respondents Messrs. W; H. Nicholson (Christj church), H. Morrison (Qreytown), and R. H. Chadwick (Napier).
