REPORTS OF GOOD WORK.
The annual meeting of the Ladies' Christian Association and its affiliated societies, the Alexandra Home and Levin Memorial Homo for Girls, was held in St. John's Churchroom. Mr. H. "W. Kersley presided. The fortysixth annual report of the W.L.C.A. stated, inter alia: Mrs. H. Waddell had been appointed president in place of Mrs. Neil M'Lean. Miss Harrison was appointed lion, secretary. The death of Miss Greenwood was recorded with regret, also that of Mr. C. H. Izard. The Dorcas Society is still under the able management of Mrs. yon Dadelszen. Mrs. Butler, official visitor, has done excellent work, and the Boot Club has been of great benefit. Groceries, etc., are given in necessitous cases, and maternity bags are provided for expectant mothers, and an outfit of short clothes on return of the bag. Thanks are given, to those who have donated clothing, etc., to the S.P.W. and C, the police, the truant officer, Two Garment Society, Mothers' Helpers, and to the Press. The balance-sheet showed a credit of about £40. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the retiring members of the committee, Mesdames Anderson, yon Dadelszen, and Lee, were re-elected. The president, Mrs. Corkill, read the annual report of the Alexandra Home.
It stated, inter alia: The number of patients through the home was about the same as last year. The erection of the new hospital is nearing completion. AH the nurses (12 in number) passed their examinations. Dr. Corkill is thanked for his seK*ices, and also Dr. Wilson, superintendent of the Public Hospital. Thanks are due to the clergymen and ladies of the Y.W.C.A. and W.C.T.U., who have visited the home; the trustees bf'.th'e Maearthy and Hooper estates for generous assistance; and to all those who have assisted, including the Hawkes Bay Fisheries for weekly donation of fish. Thankij are also extended to all subscribers, especially all firms and Government Departments who subscribed to the Christmas and comforts fund. The nursery department accommodates from 25 to 30 infants and young children, and the same number of adults are accommodated in the home. Inmates are received from all over New Zealand. Great appreciation is expressed of the work of Miss Stewart, the manager, and Miss Morgan, matron of the home. Statistics for the year are: Admitted-, 199; births, male 101, female 08; deaths, maternal nil, infants 1; cases attended outside the home, 104. £362 5s Id .was received in subscriptions and donations. Expenses for the year amounted to £2385 18s 3d. The retiring members of the committee were Mesdames Cox, Underwood, and Wilson. These were, re-elected.
Miss Archibald, president, read the report of the Levin Memorial Home for Girls, which recorded another satisfactory year. In Miss Wilson as matron the home has a worthy successor to Miss Jolly. There are 29 children in the home from five to fourteen years, all of whom attend school. Four children left, and four worts admitted during the year. Mrs. West Knowles had been made a life member. Mrs. Henry Hall resigned on leaving for England. The committee thank Toe H. for assistance, and also the Automobile Association, the lion, solicitors, Marsden School, Maearthy Trustees, Commercial Travellers, and all friends who have helped during the year. Mrs. Gillespie has been appointed lion, secretary. The Ladies' Auxiliary meats regularly and makes clothing for the children. The retiring members of the committee, Misses Morrali, Dora Greenwood, Barry, and Mrs. \V. Christie, were re-elected.'
