MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police and summons cases were dealt with by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day. ..A first-offending,inebriate 'was convicted and discharged. ■ ,Kitty Stewart, for a third offence of drunkenness, was fined '£1, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. She was also prohibited for one year. Michael Martin was fined 10s, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment, for a second offence of. drUnkenn.ss. For a breach of his prohibition order, he was fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment. Bernard William Irwin, a salesman, aged 35, was remanded' to appear at Christchurch on 25th May on a,charge of stealing £300, the property of the estate of W. Grossman and. Co. ,John Curran, alias Scrimshaw (58), charged with being found by night without lawful excuse, but in circumstances that did not disclose any intention to commit a further offence, in a j shed at Kaiwara, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. George Hardham Was fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment, for a breach of his prohibition order. For entering an hotel while prohibited, Minnie Walsh was fined £2, in dofault seven days' imprisonment. Oliver James Weight pleaded guilty to keeping his shop open en Sundays for the purpose of soiling goods. Sub-In-spector Harvey: "This man has four previous convictions for the same offence, your Worship." A fine of £5 was imposed. * Before Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, a first-of-fending inebriate, who did not appear was fined 10s, the amount of his bail. Arthur Albert Carney (33), a painter by occupation, was remanded to appear at Christchurch \on 25th May on a charge of obtaining £3. 10s by means of a valueless cheque, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch. . . •
Mr. T. H. Coltman, J.P., presided over a sitting of the Mount Cook Police Court yesterday. A third offender for drunkenness, Peter. M'Gee, was fined _£_ with the alternative of seven days ' imprisonment.. Timothy Murray, a second offender, was fined, ,10s or seven days' imprisonment.
