STRIKE LEADERSHIP
CONDEMNED BY WHEATLEY.
(Australian-New Zealand Cable Ai»n.) (Received 21st May, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, 20th May. Mr. J. Wheatley, ex-Minister of Health in the Labour Government, bitterly attacks the Trades Union Congress in a newspaper article. He declares that the workers sustained a smashing reverse. "It was not inflicted by the bosses, nor due to their own weakness. It is the most astonishing result to a magnificent effort, which will rank as the greatest and worst-bungled strike in history. When everything is straightened out, it will, doubtless, be found that cowardice was chiefly responsible for the dreadful debacle. From the first moment of the struggle—even before .it —the Labour leaders were • whinner and grovelling. The real tragedy W-3- that in its hour of trial the Labour novement was deserted by those whon it most greatly trusted."
