INTERNATIONAL VAUDEVILLE.
The latest company of vaudeville stars from J. C. Williamson's theatres in Sydney and Melbourne, which is Baid to be one of the finest the management has so far submitted,\will commence a season at the Grand Opera House on Friday. Heading an imposing array of talent is Niobe the Mermaid, a famous young American swimmer, who while completely submerged in a glass tank of water on the stage does many extraordinary things. Hardly less in importance is the first appearance of the notable. London comedian Rupert Hazell, assisted by his charming partner Elsie Day. The Superb Flemings in their lifelike reproductions of famous statuary groups, and their astounding acrobatic feats done with delightful ease, are probably the finest act of this kind in present-day vaudeville. An important first appearance is that of Walter Nilsson, who, billed as' the daredevil comedian on wheels, performs incredible things while perched'precariously on a single bicycle wheel with the saddle ten feet in the air. Dainty Dorothy Browne is an expert exponent of the new instrument, the mellow-piano, her repertoire embracing an attractive selection..of operatic and jazz airs. Direct from South Africa come Jones and Raines, a clever Welshman and his pretty partner, who are responsible for a snappy i offering of smart musical nonsense of a-highly diverting kind. And from Harmston's well-known circus in the East is Francois, in a series of deathdefying stunts on a giant globe that will make the stoutest hold tbeir breath. It is rarely indeed" that an artist of tha calibre of Mile. Odette Delage, a French apache violinist,, is heard in vaudeville in this part of the work!. Both her playing and her frocking will prove a delight. Madame - Harmston will introduce her troupe of educated cockatoos,,, a beautiful act. The 1 box-plans for the season open to-morrow morning at The Bristol.
