AUSTRALIA v. LEICESTER

MATCH DELAYED BY RAIN

A START EXBJECTED TO-DAY. „'

(United Preaa Ae«ociation—Copyright.) (Sydney Sun Cable.)

LONDON, 2nd May.

There was no play in the match between the Australians and Leicestershire on Saturday. The overnight drizzle developed into a heavy fall in tht morning, which continued till noon, by which time the ground was sodden. After inspection at £.30 p.m., it was decided that the pitch was unfit for play. (Received 3rd May, 11 a.m.) LONDON, 2nd May. Leicestershire was willing, but tbif Australians were shy, sums up the sit* uation. The wicket was fit chough at 5 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, and under clear skies, but the visiting cricketers were too canny to express themselves. Collins turned on hia heel after glancing at the wicket on Saturday afternoon, as if vowed beforehand not to tolerate discussion on the possibilities of play. Leicestershire's captain and players throughout remained •*- ---pectantly in the dressing-room. If the weather continues fine the pitch should be in excellent condition on Monday, as the wicket is already dry and the outfield drying quickly under the influence of a good wind. The members of the visiting team still find the bleak winds trying. Leicestershire's twelfth man is Armstrong, a new player " from Loughboro, who, last season, took 100 wickets and averaged 51 in the beat Leicestershire club cricket.

The Leicestershire team consists of the following players:—Major G. H. S. Fowke, A. T. Sharp, C. H. Taylor, G. Geary, W. B. Astill, A. Skclding, T. E. Sidwell, L. G. Berry, F. Bale, A. Shipman, and Armstrong.
