COLLEGE BOYS AND GIRLS
(To the Editor.)
S»)— The controyt/sy in the "Evening Post regarding children and manners has torced me to crave your indulgence, whilst 1 put up a little defence for "college boy and jffrl." As one who till lately was occupied in pursuits that took me from one end of the city to the other daily, I claim to be i.jquainted.with the subject under discussion, and I maintain that our girls and boys show far more courtesy and kindness to the travelling public than the public show to them". Your correspondent 'K.A." fakes a tilt at the college eirls taking any vacant seat and keeping it. (I take it "R.A." is a man from the tone of tho letter.) Ye gods! Fancy a man expecting a girl to give up her Beat to him; I should feel about the size of a pea-nut and as crawley as a worm if I allowed anything in frocks, either a girl or a ■woman, to deprive herself of a seat for my comfort, and lam close on 60. But apart from that, only a low days ago on a crowded tram, I saw a much-abused college girl give up her scat to a lady (?), and it was taken quite as a mattsr of course, aud the customary thank you was quite ignored. Mr. Plimmer, I am glad to see, in out for fair play. Our boys and girls arc the future men and women of New Zealand, and when necessity arises they will show that they arc no more backward in courtesy than their brothers have proved backward in pluck.—l am, etc..
