SECRET REVEALED IN SLOW MOTION.
KELLEWAY'S OPINION DELIVERY FOR OUT-SWINGERS AND OFF-BREAKS. (United Press Association.—Copyright.) (Australian-New Zealand Cable Assn.) LONDON, 12th April. G. E. Kelleway, the New South Wales cricketer, in the "Daily Express" today, after having witnessed Pathe's sIOTV-motion iilm showing M. W. Tate's bowling, says: "Tate's bowling has astonished and mystified the world. It is wonderful, because Tate admits that he does not know how he does it. I have played against Tate and been puzzled, as his hand and fingers give no indication of the nature of the ball. You have to learn Tate carefully like a new lesson. His different deliveries do not vary according to the rules, but according to Tate. In one Test Tate bowled out-swingers and off-breaks. I thought I knew him and shaped to put one to leg, but the ball, after swinging, turned off towards the slips, and I was caught at the wicket, which is most puzzling. I had the Pathe picture slowed down to see if I could account for the deviation in the flight and the extraordinary nip wherewith Tate's most dangerous ball comes off the pitch. Tate held the seam [of the ball between the first and second fingers'. There was the slightest flick' of the wrist from right to left,. and the whole arm and shoulder seem to' follow the ball in flight in a taut 'effort The. trajectory is remarkably low, and there is a great body effort. I,am confident, after seeing the wonderful' picture, it will be possible to tell exactly how each particular delivery acts after leaving Tate's hand.
