DEBT PAYMENT DRIVE
MARSHAL. JOFFRE PRESIDENT.
(Received 10th April, 11 .a.m.) PARIS, 9th April. - The National Committee, which is to organise the debts payment drive mentioned yesterday, has appointed FieldMarshal Joffre president. The lists are already opened with donations of 50,000 francs from President Doumergue and 10,000 from M. Peret, Finance Minister. ,' . ■ ■
The scheme is for a national appeal for patriotic voluntary subscriptions to payoff France's debts. The nucleus of the movement is a Committee of National Propaganda, presided over by one of France's heroes, Marshal Joffre. The committee is non-pplitieal and nonparty, and will appeal throughout the country for voluntary subscriptions.
"Le Journal," according to a,message received yesterday, said that the financial ball would be set rolling l.f the Government members themselves. Every penny of the proceeds will be devoted to paying off the debt as early as possible. . •■■ ■
