DUNEDIN, 9th April,
.Four people who had erectedjvireluss sots without obtaining the ■' necessary permits from the Post and Tele,Jap.h' Department were proceeded against by. the Department in' the Magistrate's: Court before Mr. J..G. Hewitt, SiM.,,today. It was explained by Senior-Ser-geant Quartermain that a good many sets had been erected.in this, way, and the cases were taken as a warning. The chargo against each of the four.defendants, who were J-. B. Todd, Alfred Johnson, H. A. Harper, and H. A; Foote, was Hhat they established' a plant capable of receiving wireless. lignaU without having previously obtained a license issued by the Minister.. All.the. defendants except one admitted, the offence. •He said that his set was not connected with an aerial, but when'the Magistrate explained that this was not the point involved, ho altered his plea.
"These cases are taken as a yarning," said the Magistrate. ' "I will adopt the same course as that taken in Wellington. Each defendant -will .be convicted and ordered to,pay costs." ,
