LICENSE SUSPENDED
FINED FIFTEEN POUNDS AND COSTS.

"Yesterday and also the day before, fines of £10 were impooed on intoxicated motorists, but-1 think that the fines are not effective," observed Mr. F. K. Hunt', 8.M., ■in the Police Court this morning, when Andrew Francis Donoghue (30) eamß before him charged with being in a ue of intoxication while in chaige of a motorcar last night. Mr. H. Moody, who ajner red for the accused, said that while th,e docror certified that Donogbue.was nbc drunk, there was no doubt that lie had had sown liquor. However, 'it w? not alloged that Donoghue had fravtlUd at anything but a alow.'speed....That, was a pleasing feature. . The'accused had to make a sharp turn, and'probably his judgment was not quite correct. Cqun-s-rl said that the case was fo as bad as other cases which had cpmt before the Magistrate, and he suggested that a fine should be inflicted rather than send Donoghue to gaol. ...,
In addition to inflicting. a: penalty of £15 and costs, Mr. Hrnt suspended Donoghue's driver's license for six months. .
