YACHT RACING
EVENTS AT PLIMMERTON.
Easter breezes were kind to the Plimmerton Sailing Club, which, during the week-end, held a, yachting regatta which was witnessed by many interested spectators. Keenly-contested races were the order, and three visiting yatchts secured four trophies, which they earned handsomely on their performances. An outstanding feature was tho two victories gained by Mr. Johnston's Cooee over the champion Peggy, the second win lieing snatched by a bare margin of 22 seconds. In the third encounter, Peggy, handled perfectly by her captain, Mr. A. G. Crawford, reversed the position. The windward and leward work of some of the boats comprised an excellent spectacle. Exhibitions of seamanship were demonstrated by the crews of Nonsuch, Cooee, and Peggy, and were quickly absorbed by the members of tho young and enterprising club, which entertained them as guests from Good Friday until Easter Monday. Ten well-fotfhd racing yachts bearing away before the wind under a cloud of white canvas formed a beautiful sight, only equalled by their showing when, close-hauled on the wind, they thrashed back to the Kareliana Bay buoy in tho first round. On that occasion, Cooee covered the six-mile course in the freshening breeze in lhr 6min. A happy address by the commodore of the club to the visiting yachtsmen, ably responded to by Mr. Crawford and Mr. Johnston, concluded on Easter Monday a unique gathering of Port Nicholson, Evans Bay, and Plimmerton yachtsmen. It is considered that this meeting has laid the foundation for an annual gathering during Easter week.
