EASTER WEATHER

BETTER THAN FAIRLY FAVOURABLE. It is always good policy on the part of the weather man to ignore the silvery bits on the clouds overhead, except now and again to' lend variety, and to forecast north, south, east, and west winds, strong to gale, backing and veering in all directions, with heavy rain followin" and snow on the higher levels, for by that means he disappoints no one, but rather pleasantly surprises everyone. Accordingly on Saturday his forecast wns for "fairly favourable weather, changeable, and showery in some parts and fair to cloudy elsewhere. Wellington, happily, has come under the heading of "elsewhere," and holiday folk, whether they are visitors, picnickers, or just stay-at-homes, doing up the garden or painting the back porch, have not had much to complain about.

■Traffic figures are not yet available, but apparently no records will be established this year. Why go away for weather when there is ho much of it at home Boats for Lyttelton, Nelson, and Picton, on ordinary runs and daylight trips, have left comfortably full, but not as a rule crowded. ,'Suburban train traffic has been heavy, \ but not so heavily probably as a few years ago before the motor came along to make picnics still more attractive.

To-day's events include the continuation of the Wellington-Nelson and Wellington Olub-Ashburton cricket matches at the Basin Reserve and Ivelburn Park, the Eastern Suburbs Bowling Tournament, provincial championships at the Heretniinga golf links, tonnis at the new courts nt Mirnmar, galas at Inland Bay and Lower Hutt, and athletic sports and a regatta at Plimmcrton. There arc matinees at most of the theatres and holiday Drosxamßies again this eveninc
