EXPLOSION AND FIRE*

AUCKLAND, 4th April. The launch Secret, owned by Mr. Thomas Ross, waa totally destroyed by fire on Lake Taupo on Thursday evening. At about 5.30 in the afternoon the launch was returning from Mr. Zane Grey's camp, only the owner being on board. When off .Kangitcra Pont, he was startled' by an explosion in the engine-room, which blew off the hutch over the room, and the boat was soon in flamea. ' Ross had to swim nearly half a mile to shore, and then walk over five miles round the crlgc of the lake to Louie's' camp, where he obtained assistance to return home. He wns exhausted.

The launch, was insured for £430.
