RIDERS IN COLLISION.

Two horses were killed and their riders badly shaken as the result of a peculiar accident at the Epsom showgrounds during the course of the Third Mounted Rifles sports tourney. The accident, which occurred in a wide, open paddock, some distance from the ground where the sports were being held, was caused by the collision, of two troopers who wore exercising-their mount's prior to the cbnuneiicement of one: oi the events. The horses were galloped in opposite directions, and met head on. Both riders, Troopers R. Fisher (Patumahoe) and 0. N' holls (Papatoetoe), were thrown to the ground, and it was first thought that they had been seriously injured. They were taken on strctchors to the doctor's tent, and were later conveyed to the hospital for examination. The men were badly shaken, but escaped serious injury. One of the horses. Was killed outright, and the other was destroyed a few minutes after the accident.
