MR. W. M'LAY FAREWELLED.

Members of the Newtown Bowling Club bade farewell last night to their president, Mr. \Valter M'Lay, who, accompanied by his wife and daughters, will leave for England on Thursday. Mr. J. H. A. Laughton, the vice-presi-. dent, presided. In wishing Mr. M'Lay the best of luck in his jourheyings, Mr. Laughton said that during his visit to the Old Country Air. M'Lay would probably be able to gain ideas from other bowling clubs, particularly in regard to their greens, for it was hoped that before long Newtown would have a green more in keeping with niany of those in England. As a mark of appreciation of the work of the president, Mr. Laughton, on behalf of' the club, presented him with a handsome travel-*, ling rug. Messrs. C. W. Barker, T..S. Powell, Robert Ferguson, and C. Webster supplemented the expressions of goodwill from the vice-president. In reply, Mr. M'Lay said that he felt highly honoured in having received such flattering references to his presence in, and services'to, the club. The"" club had experienced many qifficulties, but he:felt sure that these would soon be overcome. He would be glad to get any information possible in regard to bowling greens in the Old Country, and no doubt many suggestions obtainable from other clubs would be of great value to the Newtown bowlers. Mr. M'Lay thanked the members for their handsome present. During the evening Messrs. A. ..It. Brockenshire, G. Hay, B. Mayall, and E. Reid rendered musical and humorous items. Mr. W. J. Robbins was at the piano. At the conclusion "Auld Lang Syne" was sung, and cheers for _Ir. M'Lay were given.
