INQUEST ON CHARLESTON

DANNEVIRKE, This Day

On the second day of the Daniicvirke Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, Messrs. Dwan Bros.' Charleston, after going about 100 yards from the barrier in the Telephone Hack Handicap, foil down on the track without interference, and was subsequently shot by order of the stipendiary and club stewards. All sorts of rumours were about on the course. A. M. Brodie, veterinary surgeon, who on the following day examined the horse at the request of the secretary of tho club, has furnished a report showing that the horse was infested with worms, besides having organic ailments; and the indications pointed to the parasitic infestation, with the accompanying complications, together with kidney and bladder disease, accounting for the animal's behaviour prior to its death.
