ANOTHER SENIOR GRADE.
"I-think there: is no doubt in anybody's mind that the number of teams in the various grade competitions warrants- the committee putting forward proposals with regard to dividing up the grades, and also evolving a scheme for the-promotion of clubs," remarked Mr. J. Prendeville, in introducing to delegates-at-the.annual meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union last evening; the subject-matter of a subcommittee's report, as detailed in tho annual'report. The whole scheme was a' difficult one, and: had given last' year's committee a considerable amount' of thought and; work; After dealing, at-lengthwith the'position, Mr. Prende-^ vllle : formally: moved: '.'.That there be ,a sennior A and a senior B" competition."' A long,' discussio;-. followed, various speakers- statiug, the- cases of +lie junior clubs, anxious' to ■••secure--senior, status, and- of the: senior'team ■vvhieh, a'c-', cording to the" report,, was likely, to. be: degraded. Mr. H.. C. • Buck > (Solwyn) moved- an amendment: "That it be a recommen,elation- to the' incoming committee that a senior-B grade competition be inaugurated ill 1927, and that the three' loW,est' teams-in' the-senior A .grade in the 1926 season- be' included in the senior: B grade for the 1927 season." ' On being put to the meeting, the amendment' was lost. After the' motion was carried it was decided that consideration- of other details in connection with the institution of a senior. B grade and the division of other grades be deferred until next Monday evening. Suggestions were made by Mr. Prendeville that for the coming season the senior A grade- might comprise the existing senior' teams,- that entries be invited for the", senior B grade, and :that for the following season tho'-low-est three teams in the'A grade be^lacin the B grade.
