CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER

William Martin Collins, a. well-known farmer, was charged before Mr. Watson, ■ S.M., this afternoon with . the manslaughter of Ha'ere Puru, a deaf and dumb Maori, who was found injured "on the road on Ist March. After lengthy evidence had been heard, accused reserved his defence and was committed1 to the j^ext fit^ tings of the Supreme -Court up, wangaftm for trial. 3ail in two sureties of , £ 200 each and self,of £100 was allowed. The Coroner's verdict at the inqueit, which was taken in conjunction with the preliminary hearing,- was- that deceased ,died as the result of injuries received,from a horse ridden by-William Martin Colling.
