"The Daily Chronicle" publishes the first of a series of articles on "The World Bace for Trade," by Mr. Kenwick. Dealing withf the Bhineland, he paints a dark picture of millions earning only enough for rent and dry bread. The situation is more serious, because 1926 is the testing time for the Dawes scheme. The crisis in Germany to-day is infinitely more serious than in any modern industrial history. The masses in Germany aTe displaying amazing fortitude in the face of a heart-rending situation. The workless number at least 2} millions, and another 2J millions are partially without work, and 150,000 unemployed miners in the Buhr alone, while the best workers only, earn 8d to Is lOd an hour. Youths earn as low as 2d an hour. -The highest net wage in the Bhineland,* 40 marks weekly, insufficient- for decent living, equals 30s in England.
