The machine was specially overhauled by the mechanical staff at the Richmond Aerodrome before the flight A trial flight showed that the engine was missing on one cylinder. This defect was remedied, and the ' machine left Richmond apparently in perfect order.
After the crash a man ploughing in the vicinity rushed to the scene, and removed Callendar, just as the machine burst in|o, flames. Pitt's body was badly burned. Little was left of the 'plane.
