ROWING
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL MEETS.
The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Bowing Association met this week, Mr. E. S. Inhes presiding.; The Wellington Bowing ' Club made application to change its colours. The matter was referred to tho Wellington Association. '
The suggestion made by the Canterbury Association for the holding of a conference at Dunedin at the time of the championship regatta next month was approved and the Otago Association was asked to act as conveners.
Letters were received from the. Hamiiton Club and Marlborough Association protesting against the council's decision in approving of the Exhibition Fours being rowed in clinker, boats. The council, however, considered that as the event was not a championship one, they should be guided by the wishes of the local association (Otago) and as. that body had intimated that by holding the race in clinker boats considerably more entries would be forthcoming from the Southland and Otago districts, it was decided that no alteration need be made.
Mr. H. G. Alderson was appointed to act as New Zealand's representative in Australia, in place of Mr. S. A. Maxwell, who for business reasons has had to relinquish office for at least sbt months. A letter was received from the Harvard University, U.S.A., in reference to the building'of eight-oared boats, bat further action was deferred pending a letter, which was expected from Yale University. Mr. H. Paton was appointed to represent the council at the championship regatta at Dunedin on 6th March next.
