GENERAL RICHARDSON INTERVIEWED.

AUCKLAND, 30th January. General Richardson, Administrator of Samoa, left for Apia' to-day by the Tofua. Interviewed previously, he said he was well satisfied with the results of- his visit to New Zealand, many matters haying been satisfactorily settled. He was optimistic a* to the future of Samoa. He was of opinion that the recent storm would not seriously affect tho progress of the territory. He''wa» going back to initiate schemes approved, by the Government for enlarging and improving New Zealand estates, which he hoped would be the means of making Samoa financially independent of this Dominion in a few years, The need for a proper carrying ship to convoy fruit to New* Zealand was a, .vitn; necessity for the progress of tho to? rjtory. It was a matter that would have to 1-c dealt, with very soon.
