OLD-AGE PENSIONS
Recently Mr. P. Eraser, M.P., wrote to the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Pensions, pointing out the hardship to old people from Great Britain who migrated to New Zealand and other Dominions to join members of their families so that they could spend their last days with them, owing to the fact that the British old age pension stopped immediately they left the shores of Great Britain. He pointed out that the British Trade Union Congress had brought the matter before Mr. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, and that he had promised to give it sympathetic consideration, and urged Mr. Anderson to take the necessary steps to get the New Zealand Govern-, ment to make representations on the matter to the Imperial Government. The Minister of Pensions has forwarded the following reply to Mr. Fraser:— "With reference to your letter of the 7th instant in regard to the question of payment of old age pensions to old people who have migrated to join relatives in the Dominions, I have to advise that your representations are being forwarded to the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London for submission to the Imperial authorities."
