The Minister of Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) is preparing to. occupy the suite of rooms in the new Parliament Buildings adjoining that of the Minister of Education.
Sir Maui Pomare leaves for Kawhia on Saturday, and will open a Native school at Makomako.
Mr. Guy Bates Post will arrive in Wellington to-morrow morning, and will be a guest at the Midland Hotel during his visit here. The Rev. H. yan Staveren, Rabbi of the Jewish community in-Welling-ton, celebrated his 77th birthday on Tuesday, and was the recipient of many congratulations.
The Rev. Clarence Eaton, minister of ' Wesley Church, Taranaki street, is making steady progress towards good health, and it is expected that he will be quite fit to resume his duties in the course of a few weeks.
Major-General Sir G. S. Richardson, Administrator of Western Samoa, who has been on a visit to Rotorua, returned to Auckland on Wednesday, and will leave by the Tofua to-mor-row on his return to Apia.
Mr. G. W. G. Thomson, of the head office of the New Zealand Railways, who some years ago qualified as a professional accountant, and later as a solicitor, was yesterday (on the motion of Mr. 0. CVMazengarb) admitted by his Honour the Chief Justice as a solicitor of the Supreme Court.
The Hon. F. J. Eolleston, recently appointed Minister of Justice and Defence, is a keen Association football enthusiast, having at one time occupied a position on the Wellington Football Association. At last night's meeting of the New Zealand Council, it was decided to forward a letter of congratulation to the new Minister.
The Hon. A. D. M'Leod (Minister of Lands) will make a tour of the Bay of Islands district at the beginning of next month with Mr. Allen Bell, M.P. for Bay of Islands, and Mr. W. Jones, M.P. Spr Marsden, in order to investigate the possibility of settlement of idle lands, swamp drainage schemes, and the sand drift and kauri gum problems. The party will nrrive at Whangarei on Thursday, 4th February, returning to Whangarei on Saturday, 13th February.
Sub-Inspector Hollis, of Wellingtonwho leaves shortly to take up the duties of inspector of police at Whangarei, was farewelled yesterday afternoon' by members of the Police Force, and was made the recipient, together with Mrs. Hollis, of a tea service. Mr. W. B. M'llyeney, Commissioner of Police, who made the presentation, said he had known Mr. Hollis for twenty-five years, and all that time had found him an honest, honourable, faithful, and loyal comrade, who was just to all with whom he came into contact. Eulogistic references, to the work of Mr. Holiis were also made by Inspector Cummings, Senior-Ser-geant Lander, and Senior-Detective Cameron. Sub-Inspector Hollis suitably replied.
