A NARROW ESCAPE
(II lILIOUAPH.—FBESS ASSOCIATION.)
HAMILTON, This Day. A motor-lorry driver named C. Hall, employed by Bisley and Co., merchants, narrowly escaped a serious, perhaps fatal, accident during the height of yesterday's storm at Seddon road level crossing, one of the most dangerous of several in tie town. Hall was approaching with a motor-truck, and was within a few y"i-ds of the crossing when a train suddenly appeared from the Trankton sido. The lorry-driver jammed on his brakes in the hope of pulling up, but the retarding of speed really hindered instead of helped, for the lorry had passed nearly over the line when the engine struck the back wheel and threw the vehicle almost against the cattle-stops. The driver by this time found Himself lying on the step of the lorry, but escaped from all but a severe shaking. The lorry was damaged to the extent of about £150, but is covered by a comprehensive policy.
