MEETING AT ATHLETIC PARK

A good deal of interest is being displayed in the second athletic meeting in connection with the competition for the Dewar Challenge Shield, which is taking place at Athletic Park thii, afternoon. When the programme was commenced at 2.30 p.m., with the- one mile novice cycle Handicap, there was a fair attendance. The track is in first-class order, and there is every indication that some very fine contests will be seen. The majority of the local champions are competing, although C. Campbell is a notable absentee in the middle-distance events. The 440 yards handicap is expected to 'provide a great race. Kyle is on the scratch mark, and is conceding starts up to 55 yards. A new runner to Wellington, H. E. Newton, who has some good performances to his credit, is also a competitor in the "quarter." Altogether a splendid afternoon's sport seems assured.
