BUS SERVICE TO KELBURN

10 THE EDITOR.

Sir, —Many Kelburn residents must hayo been very pleased to road that at last a bus service to Kelburu is to be inaugurated. Displeasure has been expressed aa to the route, and to a certain extent this is justifiable: It does eeem rather incongruous that people who work round about Manners and Willis streets sliould have to journey right down to Bowen street to catch a bus. This difficulty could perhaps be overcome by a system of transfer tickets, whereby a person using a concession ticket could, journey by tram from, say, anywhere north of Courtenay place up to Bowen street, and then chango over to the bus, and thus make the total fare to Kelburn fourpence, and not fourpence plus tram fare. Unless some such system is used, it seems improbable that the bus service will pay. It will, of course, be of great convenience to Government servants, of whom I am one, who work at the north end of the city, but to workers in the southern parts the service will prove of little ÜBe, and the cable car will be used as at present, and thus the council will lose money on the venture. If, however, a transfer system were used, then we would find the buses being used, since they will take people "past their door," as the saying is.

For residents of north Kclburn, i.e., in tho vicinity of dim cable car, the bus service will be of little use, but to south Kelhurnites and residents of Kelburu Extension the service will be a "great boon, but there must be some system of co-operation between the trams and buses to ensure a paying proposition.— I am, etc.,

KELBURNITE.
