MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Thomas Balmer, for a second offence of drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. For a breach of his prohibition order he was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. An adjournment to 12th January was granted in the case of Herbert Denham, who was charged with being in charge of a motor truck while in a state of, intoxication. Bail was allowed in the .sum' of £20. ' ■ >. - Angus Harry M'Nabb was convicted and fined 10s for assaulting George Gardiner. Charged with a fourth offence of drunkenness, George Gardiner, alias Morse, alias "Bricky" Gardiner, wai fined £2, in, default seven days' imprisonment. A remand to 13th January was granted in the case of a young man named Robert Irvine Owens, who appeared on five charges of breaking and entering and theft at Wellington. _ ;* On a charge of deserting his wife in Victoria without making provision for her maintenance, Jeffrey Arnott was remanded to 15th January. Chief-Detec-tive Kemp stated that an escort, would be arriving from Australia about that date.
Edward Townley Lloyd was convicted and .fined £1, in default 24 hours' . imprisonment, on a charge of being illegally on licensed premises after hours. Charged with aiding Lloyd in the offence, Arthur Hugh Julian was fined £1, iv default 24 hours' imprisonment
