THE CABINET

EARLY ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED

PO&SIBLE APPOINTMENTS.

(By Teleirtph.)

(Spwfal to the "Evenini Pott.") AUCKLAND, This Day.

It is expected that within the next few days the new Ministry will be announced by the Prime Minister, and it is generally understood, says the "Auckland Star," that Mr. J. A. Young, Chairman of Committees, is a qertainty for Ministerial rank.

There would be still two portfolios to be filled, and a "Star" rsportyr learned from reliable sources that it was quite likely that Mr. X, S. Williams would be given the portfolio of Natjve Affairs.

The third appointment lay between Mr. F. J. Bolleston (Timaru) and Mr. David Jones (EUesmere). Jn the re-ahuffle of portfolios, it v expected that with the raising of Mr. Young to Ministerial rank, Mr. HockJy will be appointed Chairman of Committees.

The Hon. W. Downie Stewart will, it is anticipated, take Finance, ancl Mr. Coates will give up Public Works; and this portfolio will be taken by Mr. M'Leod, who will also keep that of Lands.

It is reported that Sir James Parr has pencilled berths for himself and Lady Parr by a steamer leaving for London next April. There ha* been talk for some months that Sir James Parr would be the next High Commissioner. It is significant that Sir James Allen's term of office ends a few months later.

If Sir James Parr does succeed Sir James Allen, it is thought in wellinformed quarters that the Hon. E, P. Lee, M.P., will be appointed to Sir James Parr's place in the Cabinet.
