Six paintings of New Zealand scenery by New Zealand artists are on view in one of the windows at the High Commissioner's Office, writes "The Post's" London correspondent. They are the pictures %hich were presented to Sir James Mills by tho staff of the Union Steam Ship Company! during his visit to the Dominion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company. They are: Mount Sefton (Sidney Thompson); On the Wanganui River (Nugent Welch)"; Bullor Go^ge and Mount Cook-Aorangi-from Hooker Valley (C. H. Howorth); Mount Cook from Lake Pukaki (Menzies Gibbs); Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps (A. Nicoll). The long spell of hot weather which Taupo enjoyed during the Christmas season was broken on Thursday night and on Friday, when heavy rain showers fell, accompanied by snow and thunderstorms. The storm cleared early on Saturday morning. It was evidently the edge of the disturbance which was experienced in Hawkes Bay, states a Taupo correspondent. The Kaimanawa Ranges aud the National Park area were thickly covered with snow. The sudden change from the dusty heat to cold, wintry weather caused the majority of the motorist campers to make a hurried exodus from the shores of Lake Taupo. The high southerly wind which accompanied the storm continued, and interfered with the fly fishing at the usual popular spots. The roads were ini"pru vei b^ the liyipg of the dust.
