(BT • TEIGURAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.)' DUNEDIN, This Day. ' The New Zealaud Chess Congress wai continued today with the following se-. suits :— THIRD ROUND. E. E. Hicks v. Barnes.—The Scotch Game. Barnes developed quietly, and the position was even at the adjournment, when Hicks forced the exchange of queens. The game stands still adjourned. ' Stenhouse v. Davies.—A Queen's Pawn game was opened in the accepted modern style, until iJavies made a weak move, giving him a very cramped game, which he lost on' the thirty-sixth move. Pihl v. Anderson.—This was a Queen's Pawn game, which was very even, and developed .into a most ■ interesting end game, when Anderson won a pawn. Pihl, however, defended skilfully, and a draw resulted.

Gyles 'v. Severrie.—ln this Queen* Pn#n Game, both players came ,out of the. opening stages with even material, and even positions. The outstanding f?ame in the second round was between E. A. Hicks and A. Kelling, which resulted in a win forihe former, who played his favourite French Defence. .- •
