The following motion was carried nt last night's meeting of the City Council, members standing:— "The Mayor and councillors of the City of Wellington desire to express their feelings of profound sorrow at tho death of Her Majesty Queen Alexandra and their deep sympathy with His Majesty the King and the members of his family in tlicir great bereavement. They desire to place on record their sense of the loss sustained by the Nation through her demise. Throughout the whole of her long life she devoted herself to philanthropic and charitable works, becoming a centre of beneficicnt activity of far-reaching influence; anrl her outstanding qualities have left their impress on the national life.
