BOY SCOUTS AT EASTBOURNE

The East Harbour Boy Scouta held a "Parents' Night" in the Masonic Hall on Saturday evening, there being a large gathering of Eastbourne residents. Mr. A. Walker occupied the chair, and explained that the demonstration given was preliminary to the annual meeting of the East Harbour Trocp, which is to be held on Thursday evening in the Muritai School, and at which it is hoped a large number will be present. An exhibition of knotting, signalling, compass direction, and ambulance work was then given by the members of the troop, under the direction of Scoutmaster Jones, Cubmaster Lewis, and Assistant Scouts Millier and Cheeseman, followed by several recitations and a demonstration of Scout and Cub gamins. District Scoutmaster Nelson, of the Petone Troop, was present, and gave a most interesting speech on , the progress and objects of Scouting, making a special appeal for the interest of parents. At the end of the programme the boys were entertained at supper, and a vote of thanks was passed to the "ladie3 who attended to the catering.

During the evening two minutes' silence was observed as a tribute of respect to the late Queen Alexandra.
