A humorous reference to the holdup of the Maheno was made by. Sir Ernest Rutherford, the eminent scientist, when acknowledging a welcome at the Rotary Club luncheon to-day. "I would not be here at all," he said, "if it had not been for peculiar events which have happened during the past day or so. As a scientist, I am quite accustomed to two atoms occupying the same space at the same time. I ought to be in Sydney to-day, but I am in Wellington. But that fact does not worry me very seriously. It is all in accord with the rules of physics. At the same time it' is rather annoying to be kept on a boat which changes its date ,of sailing from hour to hour and day to day." Sir Ernest added that lie believed there was an excellent prospect of the boat sailing this afternoon. If it did not he was afraid that'ho would have to alter his plans and return to England by some ether route. ...
