AUCKLAND PROVINCE
CONTBIBUTION TO THE „
VICTORY.
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day.
A survey of the results bfthe province show that Auckland contributes in a remarkable .degree to Mr. Coates's ~ sweeping majority, having returned sixteen^ possibly', seventeen, Government candidatesi-outfpi a total of twenty.-two seats. labour, which' held five of the remaining seats in the last Parliament, 'retains these with reduced majorities in three cases, and increased/ margins in the others. The, Nationalists now hold no seats in the province, tho only two previously held having, been captured by the Government.. One doubtful seat, Ohiuemuri, lately represented by AJr--I'oland, Independent, will also, pro* bably fall to the Government. Another remarkable fact is the few changes lin Auckland's ..represeutatiyeo; the only new. members being Messrs. .Jones, Reid, and Simuel, if the-last is elected. ...
The Government waged keeu war on all the Auckland Labour strongholds, but, as, ': foretasted in ' f The Post," failed to capture any, although good fights were put up by. Miss Melville and Messrs. OldfieldnndStewart, who pulled down the majorities materially. Even Mr. Ravage, who was considered most strongly entrenched, had his majority reduced by about 800.
