ME. T. FORSYTH.
Mr. T. Forsyth, in returning thanks, said : "I desire to thank you to-night most heartily for the great compliment you have paid me by returning me at the head of the poll. I want to say that the contest in Wellington East has been a most pleasant one, and a clean one. I want to pay that tribute to my opponent, Mr. Monteith. (Applause.) I think my success to-day was largely due to the fact that I am a supporter of Mr. Coates. I believe that the people of Wellington East, like the electors in many other parts of the Dominion, are determined to give Mr. Coate3 a chance—(applause)—and I am, therefore, going now to assist him to the best of my ability. ,1 want to thank my committees, particularly ladies' committee, who have worked so hard to bring about this victory; and I want to say that, while, during the contest I have been a party man, from to-night onward, for, the next three years, I propose to represent all the electors of Wellington East. .ifApplauso.) My services-will be at thoir ."dls'fto|o'i;-/ilnd" nothing-"wlH "be wanting' on my part-to,carry out the duties devolving upon a member of Parliament. I have nothing to say against my onponent. He- has fought a straight-out 'fight; bill he is on the wrong aide for the people of Wellington East."
