Mr. H. .Ei Combs, thanked the- voters oE Wellington.Nprlh who hadjsupported the Laboijr'Party, at the poll. Naturally, they were very ;4'f aPP°wted to find that instead of increasing the poll they put -up on the -last occasion {bey had gone back slightly. At the same time/ they had got to accept defeat in the best spirit*. ■ They would, however, come forward again with thepolicy 'they had advocated—a ■ policy which t in process of ■time would reach the hearts'and minds of ihe people.- Sir John Luke had polled magnificently; h» had obtained an abs.plute majority over both his competitors. On behalf of the Labour Party; he tendered -their. congratulations to Sir John Luke. At.'the same time, the Labpur Party had nothing to regret on. their side so far aa the contest was concerned. The fight had been a clean one, The "Labour ;Party, would .appeal to the elec- ] torg again, for they.knew that the Labour, cause was the best cause. At 'Mr. Coinbs's. call, cheers were given for Sir t John Luke and also for Labour.
