REFORM'S DECISIVE VICTORY
GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS
AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY
GOVERNMENT SECURES 55 SEATS
The appeal of Mr. Coatesto be {given a mandate to carry on the' Government of the country for the ensuing three years has resulted in a smashing victory for the Eeform Party, which has reduced the National Party to a negligible quantity and regained ground lost to the Labour Party through vote-splitting in 1922. Yesterday the Beforni Party went to the country holding 38 scats in the House of Representatives, and it came back with 50. in no case did the Government lose a seat, and it captured 16-10 from the National Party, 3 from Labour, and 3 in electorates formerly, represented by Independents. A former Independent, Mr, Allen Bell (Bay of Islands), stood as a Reformer at this election. The seats gained were:-Waikato, Taranaki, Ohinemuri, Hawkes Bay, Clutha, Patea, Wellington East, Stratford, Christchurch North, Wallace, Dunedin North, Awarua, Marsden, Eiccarton, Oamaru, and Napier. Wellington East, Napier, and'Dunedin North were lost by Labour to Eeform, and the National Party secured Waimarino from Labour. .... -■■ .
