Locanda Mao is still sound, and appears to bo working well. Away paced two miles at a useful gait at Addington yesterday, and pulled up sound. Onyx is still ou the easy list. The spell at this stage ia nothing in favour of her Cup chance, but she might do better later in the meeting. Native Chief is pacing well, and is improved by his race at Timaru. He is expected to be very, hard to beat in the Derby. Darknite is pacing well in saddle, and probably will be ridden by E. B. Berry at Addington on Tuesday. ■ The Australians Auto Machine and Machine ■ Brick are being exercised at Addington by P. Riddle, but so far they have not been asked to go fast. The chief topic of conversation amongst trotting enthusiasts in Christchurch is Realm's great effort over a mile and a half on Tuesday morning &t Addington. Realm (W. J. Tomkinson) and Logan Chief (J. J. Kcimerley) set out to go two miles,'but were easC/d ujj at the end of twelve furlongs. Realm led his opponent throughout and had several lengths advantage at the finis!'. T?ho first half took 64sec, mile 2miir 3 2-ssec, mile aad a quarter. 2miu 41
l-ssec, and the mile and a half 3min 16sec, a brilliant performance anxi a race and track record for New Zealand. Realm's display has brought him into favour for the New Zealand Trotting Cup, and he is certain to be one of the best-backed horses on the day. Logan Chief -.vas allowed to drop out in the concluding stages. Realm is not a sound horse and inclined to be moody, bo possibly too much value need not be placed on this performance, .although it was a remarkably good one.
