MOTOR FATALITY
LADY PASSENGER DROWNED.
A tragic motoring accident occurred at Miramar early last evening, which resulted in the death. of Mrs. Helen Mary Banks, of. Wellington. About 8 o'clock Mr. and Mrs. Banks, who are confectioners in business in Courtenay place, were motoring along the; road which skirts the foreshore in '. the vicinity of the Miramar Wharf, when, the car backed too close to the edge of the road and slipped into the harbour. The water in this vicinity is fairly deep, and more than reached the top of the hood of the car. Passers by were attracted by cries for assistance from Mr. Banks, and some of the crew of a ship berthed at the Miramar, Wharf and others at once gave their help. ' Mr. Bank's managed to reach the shore, and for some, little time it was thought that Mrs. Banks wa( imprisoned beneath the car, but her body was later observed floating^ by the wharf. It was secured, and artificial respiration was tried, but wit!l--ovt avail. An inquest will bo held.
