The Manawatu Spring Show opened in dull weather, which shortly before noon broke! into rain/ The attendance is the average'for the first day. There are many visitors, from outside districts, aud they made use of the special polling booth on the ground to register their votes. An ample-electorate staff is in attendance to cope with requirements. As for the show itself, stock, sheep, cattle, and horses are.up to standard, while the display of motors is the largest arid most varied yet seen in the Wellinston: district. Over a hundred vehicles are exhibited of all representative \ makes, with a number .new to the visitor. . ■ / ■ . The side shows are notable for the substantial, character of the equipment, indicating the fact that a regular business, with regular fixtures, has sprung up in this direction in.'recent years.: - ; The election is' likely to affect the attendance to-djiy, but if the weather improves big crowds may be expected for the remaining days. of the show. Judging so fap has been' confined to the indoor exhibits, the schools section, photography, and home industries. First prizes in photography were secured 'by H. C. Milne, H. C. Peart, A.. Hi.
