The weather was fine and bright for Cup Day. There was an enormous attendance, estimated at 130,000. The Governor-General and State Governors were present. Several New Zealanders also attended. The track was fast. The stakes for the day totalled £16,419.

There was an exciting finish in the hurdle race. Perpetual, fourth early in the race, narrowly defeated the pacemaker, Fred Brown. The winner .was*, ridden by Boyd, whose third success it was in the race.

The favourite, Bed-Gauntlet, had a comfortable, victory in the Eailway High-weight Handicap from the early leader, Trillo. The winner . was ridden .by Pike -.. and is trained at Bandwick by W. Kelso. The time equalled the race record. Bed Gauntlet won a double.at the AJJ.C. Meeting last month.

Quetta defeated the Duchess of Blankney in the last stride in the November Nursery. The winner cost 110 guineas as a yearling.

There was a great race in the Cup. Windbag wore Manfred down over the last furlong. The winner received a great ovation on returning to scale. He is trained by the New Zealander, George Price, who was formerly private trainer for Mr. Goring Johnston, Awapuni. Munro states that he had a good ride. Windbag was always going nicely. Dempsey stated that Manfred pulled hard in the early stages; otherwise he went welL The /veteran rider, B. Lewis, said that it was the best and cleanest run Cup he ever rode in. The third horse, Pilliewinkie, is trained by tie New Zealander, B. W. King. Agricolo led i always in the Steeple chase, and won by half a furlong. Irish Bufus and Winchaldean fell. '

Mercian King finished with a good run in the Van Yean Stakes, and won brilliantly from Ambassador, who was ridden by the New Zealander, A. Reed. j Windbag wu purchased as a yearling for £150 by a New Zealander on behalf' of Mr. F; Earl, of Auckland. The purchaser disliked the horse on the looks and aeked the breeder to be relieved of the aale.
