SIX MONTHS' FIGURES
! EXPENDITURE EXCEEDS INCOME BY £954,321. The public accounts for the quarter ended 30th September, 1925, appear in a Supplementary Gazette issued last I night. The revenue and expenditure of the ■Consolidated Fund, ordinary revenue account, for the six months from Ist April to 30th September, 1925, are as follow :— REVENUE. The revenue received amounted to | £12,034,840. For the same period last year the amount received was £10,- ---| 923,920, there being thus an increase in revenue of £1,110,920 as ebmpaivd with tho first bis months of last ye;n\ The principal increases'arc:— . £ Customs 281.553 Railways 238,205 Stamps .; 202^403 Postal and Telegraph 188,080 The principal decreases are:— • £ Miscellaneous .. 75,179 Income tax ..„;„. 22,377 Land tes . 17,746 EXPENDITURE. The total net expenditure for the six months was £12,989,161," &a compared with £12,547,337 for the game period last sear, there being thus an increase of £441,824. The principal increases are:— £ Under Special Acts 46,603 Working Railways (mostly due to increased wages and purchases of stores and material) 317,996 Pensions Department 27,503 Naval Defence 26,872 Department of Education 15,542 Department of Lands and Survey 17,441 Electoral Department 17,546 Department of Agriculture 20,422 Tho principal decreases are :— £ Post and Telegraph 88.596 Industries and Commerce 69;771 The excess of expenditure over income for the six months was, £954,321, compared with £1,623,417 for the same period last year.
