Mr. ¥. \V. Fukert, Kngincer-in-Ghief of the Public Works .Department, has been visiting tho West Coast sounds district in company with Mr. Li". T. M. Kissell, Chief Electrical Engineer. Asked upon their arrival at Dtinedin yesterday whether anything might be stated as to the purpose of the journey, Mr. Knrkcrl, said it was to make a general inspection of the sounds and the possibilities in regard to hydro-power, and in other respects: also to have a look- at the Milford 'Track. The outcome, of their nbf-ei vat ions was lo confirm (lie Department's opinion as lo the potentialities of the district.

Mr. Kurkert added that a survey wotdd be started without delay of one or oilier of the. localities, from which water-power might- be derived.
