At the convention at Philadelphia, Dr. Hugh M. Young, of the Johiis Hopkins Medical College of Surgeons Committee on Antiseptics, explained how the blood stream was purified by injections called digermieides. -Injections of mercurochronie were successful in treatments of pneumonia, erysipelas, and even leprosy. The war was responsible for progress in antiseptic surgery and the discovery that antiseptics will kill germs without destroying the tissue by injection into the blood or tissue. Figures showed that in forty years operations had increased from 3 per cent, to 70 per cent, in all hospital cases. " ■
