PRIME MINISTER'S REFERENCE
NAVAL UNIT MUST BE MAINTAINED
NO DICTATION OVER IMMIGRATION ISSUE.

Iv his speech here to-night, the Prime Minister justified the Dominion in refusing to sign tho Geneva Protocol, for one reason, because that Protocol would allow other nations to decide regarding immigrants for this country. Wo would never agree to that. (Applause.)
He favoured, the Locarno Poe'i, which was quite different from the Protocol. Tho Government believed in arbitration, but would look ask* ance at any proposal to do away with all forms of defence in this country. (Applause.) We must be prepared ti.> protect our own country, which was the best in the world, and the overseas traclo routes must also be protected.
The New Zealand naval unit must bo maintained. (Applause.)
