NEW ZEALAND'S WHEAT
WILL THERE BE GOVERNMENT CONTROL? NO REPLY LIKELY TILL ELECTION OVER. (BY imOßAra. —PRESS ASSOCIATION ) . . CHEISTCHURCH, This Day. No definite information was available at yesterday's meeting of the North Canterbury executive of the -Farmers' Union as to how the season's wheat will be handled, but it was stated that there was every possibility of Government control. Tho chairman, Mr. J. D. Hall, asked if there was anything resulting from the communication between the Wheat Board and tho Department. .Mr. W.- ■ Mulholland : "There is only this; that wa feel that there is no othci way out of the difficulty than by way of Government control. We cannot see how the Government can get out of it. as there is no possible chance of getting the wheat-growers' organisation given authority to control wheat. If there i» control tho Government will control it absolutely. We shall know in about ten days when tho control figures of acreage comes out. but .so far as'our information goes tho short ago w,ill be pretty considerable. Supposing tho figures' to be as good as possible—say 120.000 to 130,000 acres—it means a very considerablt shortage. Tho position will probably hi cleared after the election."
Consideration of the marketing question was held over."
