PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.

The annual general meeting of the Wellington Philosophical Society was held at the Dominion Museum last night-, Mr. A. C. Clifford presiding over an attendance of about forty members. The annual report, which was adopted without discussion, recorded that sixteen new members had been elected during the year,- while eight had resigned and eight had died. The total membership was shown as 225.

The financial statement showed a credit balance of £35 16s 2d for the year, as against a debit balance for the previous twelve months.

The following papers were tabled:— Name List of New Zealand fishes, by Mr. W. J. Phillipps, F.L.S., and The Anatomy of Hemideina Thoracicia, White, by F. G. Maskell, M.Sc. . The various sectional reports were read and adopted.

Professor 11. B. Kirk and Mr. G. N. Hudson were elected to represent the society on the council of the New Zealand Institute. Mr. Gifi'ord was reelected president, Messrs. F. W. 'Varkert and H. Hamilton were elected vicepresidents, and the following members were elected to constitute the council:— Dr. W. P. Evans, Mr. M. Oncrley Mr. J. P. Maxwell,. Mr. J. M. Morice, Dr E. Marsden, Mr. W. A. B. Oliver, Professor 11. B. Kirk. Dr. Cotton, Mr. E. K. Lomas. Mr. G. V. Hudson, Dr. C. X Adams, ad Mr. B. C. Aston.

Two lectures were delivered, the first by Mr. 11. T. Fraser upon ""Birds of the Ross Dependency" and the other by Mr. W. R. B. Oliver on "The Poor Knights Islands."
